This is a video showing you how you can rapier a dodgy crackling noisy cross fader. If you have a digital mixer or your mixer has fader start or midi controls there is a strong possibility that your mixer has optical faders so this problem will not affect you and it is not necessary to dismantle your cross fader. Also bare in mind if your fader is just crackling and not actually cutting out you might not have to take it apart at all just a jet of clean air should do the trick if you dont have clean air Ive put links bellow. (Please note the link if for UK only) www.maplin.co.uk OR www.pcworld.co.uk ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR MIXER FROM THE MAINS BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY SIRVICING OR REPIRES. WARNINGS. Be careful of the contacts in the runner they are very delicate and very easy to bend, if you bend one of them it may short and cause popping or make the music cut out when fading from one channel to another. Do not use any abrasives on the contact surface like wire wool or sand paper if the dirt or dust is that stubborn than use some cooking oil and a cloth or some tissue or even consider replacing the fader all together. Do not use grease on ant part of the fader grease is thick and could cause the cross fader to loose contact and also make the cross fader stick.
